Showcasing the
Beauty of
Natural Woods

Raul's Pine Driftwood
As the story goes — Raul stumbled onto this piece of driftwood on a beach in Eureka, California quite a while ago. He always wanted to "do something with it," but life had other plans. Enter our mutual friend who suggested Raul have me take a look at the piece and attempt to sculpt it into something interesting.

After taking a cut into it to see what was hiding within, I knew I had a challenge ahead of me. The interior had a sap-filled core, the entire piece was full of cracks, and the wood turned out to be pine, which is not the best wood for woodturning. As my consternation subsided, I settled on the combination of natural edge, interesting looking grain, a rotten core, and stabilizing the cracks with glue, to produce these two unique sculptures. Both are 6" in diameter. The interior of the bowls are 2" deep, and the overall height of the tall sculpture is 5".
